Bengaluru, February 25: Getting late to reach airport Bangloreans? No need to worry as the state has come up with a first of its kind service in the city with enabling the passengers to board ‘heli-taxis’ mode of transportation. Heli-taxis are basically helicopter taxis for passengers to reduce their time of travelling.

The decision to start this service was made available as the airport is situated at the northern top of the city and the commuters from the southern part of the city find it extremely difficult to travel because of traffic and reach the airport. In order to save the travelling time of the passengers and road traffic, the state has decided to introduce ‘heli-taxis’ services for the first time in the country.

Under this system, the passengers who want to board international and domestic flights at Kempe Gowda International Airport in Bangalore would be ‘air-lifted’ by offering them helicopter rides for far away parts of the city to reach the Airport on time. The helicopter’s heli-taxi service will help the passengers reach the airport in 15-20 minutes instead of the long 2 hours journey.

The heli-taxi services will commence from the first week of March. These heli taxis will be available in two shifts. The morning shift will start from 6.30am to 9.30am in the morning and 3.00 pm to 6.15 pm in the evening. Approximately six passengers can travel in it carrying 15kg luggage inside the chopper and if the luggage weights more, than it would be brought to the airport by road. The amount to be paid to avail this facility is Rs 4130/- inclusive of GST.

A good initiative by the State government, but we need to wait in order to see what would be the ultimate outcome of this service.
