Sofia, February 26: Indian boxers made the whole country proud in the 69th Strandja Memorial boxing tournament for men and women as the contingent ended the championship with a whopping 11 medals five from men and six from women boxers including two gold, three silver and six bronze medals.

Vikas Krishan and bagged the shining gold medal in their respective categories. Mary Kom and Seema Poonia clinched the silver medal in their respective categories. Laisharam Sarita Devi, Devi Maisnam, Bhagyabati Kachari, Saweety Bora bagged bronze after losing their semi-final bouts earlier.

Notably, Amit Panghal in the 49 Kg category defeated Morocco's Said Mordaji to win the gold medal. Vikas, on the other hand, eased past American Troy Isley. It was a morale-boosting performance for Vikas, who had been laid low by a hand injury for a few months.

He also clinched the top honours at last month's India Open. However, Mary Kom in 48 Kg category lost to Bulgaria's Sevda Asenova in a rather shocking decision. Seema Poonia in 81 Kg category also went down to Russia's Anna Ivanova, done in by her rival's sheer power. The bronze-medallists among the men were Mohammed Hussamuddin in the 56kg category and Satish Kumar in +91kg category.
