New Delhi, February 28: BJP leader Sambit Patra speaking about the arrest of Karti Chidambaram in connection with the INX media case stated that none is above law. Meanwhile, the Congress party has dubbed his arrest a vendetta and diversionary tactic by the government to hide its scams.

"I believe no one should consider oneself above the law of the country. The corrupt are being sent to jail under the law which is taking its own course in the matter," the BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said.

Several Congress leaders, including the party’s communications in-charge Randeep Surjewala, Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Singhvi, spoke out against Karti Chidambaram’s arrest.

It was a classical diversionary tactic to hide corruption scams, mal-governance and mal administration that have marred this government, Surjewala said.

Senior Congress leader Sibal also termed the arrest malafide and said it was done to harass P Chidambaram. This is complete vendetta politics, this is completely malafide, he said.

Karti Chidambaram, arrested by the CBI in connection with the probe into the INX Media case, sent to one-day CBI custody by Patiala House Court today evening.

The CBI had lodged an FIR on May 15 last year alleging irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance to INX Media for receiving overseas funds to the tune of 305 crore rupees in 2007 when P Chidambaram was the Union finance minister.

The agency has alleged that Karti had received funds to the tune of 10 lakh rupees in the case. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also registered a money laundering case in the INX Media case.
