SC judge urges State Chief Justices to ensure at least one family court in each district

Chennai, February 4: For easy access to justice , Supreme Court Judge Justice Kurian Joseph has urged Chief Justices of High Courts to take measures for at least one family court in every district. Helping disturbed families, it will help speedy disposal of matrimonial disputes.

 
He was delivering the inaugural address at the fourth regional conference on "Sensitisation of Family Court Matters" in Chennai. While speaking he reminded the primary objective of family courts, is not to promote dispute but find out conciliation and fast settlement.

"Family court judges should possess a sixth sense, to find out the epicentre of matrimonial disputes. They are like homoeopathy doctors, who unlike allopathy doctors prescribe treatment based on the constitution and special features of the patients," he added.

Indira Banerjee, Chief Justice of Madras High Court also reminded the importance of preservation of family as an institution for country. "But you must also understand that in cases where there are no scope for settlement, mere procrastination of cases would only increase the agony of the parties," she added addressing family court judges.
