Kanpur gets its first Butterfly Park to preserve ecosystem

Kanpur, February 5: Aiming to preserve the ecosystem, the Kanpur zoo authorities have aimed to construct a butterfly park under the purview of Uttar Pradesh Government. According to the Kanpur Zoo authority, the butterfly park will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1 crore.

 

A total of 100 species of flowers have been planted in order to attract the butterflies. Till now, more than 50 species of butterflies have already been observed in the park, though till now official counting has not been done. They have also planted around 50 species of flowers at the periphery. The park will open around March 2018 for the public.

In addition to the added species of butterflies and flowers there are 40 species of evergreen flowers have also been planted, including Calendula, Gulmehendi and Dahlia, to allow the tourists witness the scenic beauty of the place throughout the year.

Earlier in November the forest department had laid the foundation stone for Butterfly Conservatory Park in Gurgaon. 15 acres Conservatory Park has been viewed to be developed in and is considered to be one of the biggest butterfly parks of North India. The State Forest Department is setting up the park to conserve species of butterflies that are near to extinction because of the huge urbanization that has taken place off late. The park will be developed in association with Uthaan, an NGO. Within a year or so, the park will be ready.

In Kerala, too State-run Kerala Forest Research Institute (KFRI) has come up with an ambitious project to create a number of butterfly gardens and parks in selected schools and other spots in the state. These will provide the endangered butterfly species with a toxin-free space which will have no chemicals, pesticides and will be a pollution free area.
