Haryana shines in Khelo India: The powerhouse rules wrestling with 24 medals

New Delhi, February 5: Young Wrestlers of Haryana have made the state proud wrapping up with the maximum number of medals at the end of the fifth day's competition in the first Khelo India School Games. The state won both the men’s and women’s freestyle championships at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Sports Complex on Sunday.

Haryana topped with 14 gold, 11 silver, and 10 bronze, while Delhi followed with 6-5-9 and Maharashtra with 4-5-10. In total, the sports powerhouse now has 52 medals with 20 gold, 16 silver and an equal number of bronze medals.

Haryana’s girl toppled boys with a higher number of medals. The girls in total clinched 14 medals with 8 golds. The boys’ team won 10 medals, including three gold.

Another Haryana star Manu Bhaker shot 241.1 in the final to outclass Anjali Choudhary by 6.4 points. Manu, who had won the Asian youth silver, had qualified in style by shooting 387, that broke the junior national record of 385 held by Malaika Goel.
