Maharashtra to be the 1st state to come up with ‘Transgender Welfare Board’
Mumbai, February 5: Kerala has always made sure about the rights for ‘transgenders’ and so now Maharashtra is stepping on same footsteps as the state is planning to set up Transgender Welfare Board to look after education, employment, housing and health schemes of transgenders.
Transgender Welfare Board will ensure and protect constitutional and human rights of transgenders. With a provision of Rs 5 Crores, Maharashtra government will soon set up Transgender Welfare Board within a month.
Minister of State for Social Justice Dilip Kamble said that the Transgender Welfare Board will be set up in a month’s time. It will look after education, employment, housing, and health schemes for transgenders and protect their Constitutional and human rights.
Maharashtra will be the first such State to have such a Board, the minister added. The Transgender Welfare Board was 1st conceptualized in 2014.
“Since welfare schemes for transgenders were implemented by Union Social Justice Ministry, all work related to setting up of the board and implementing welfare schemes for the community was transferred to the state Social Justice department on October 3, 2017, and an amount of Rs. 5 Crores was set aside for the purpose,” he said.
Women and Child Welfare Minister Pankaja Munde “We want them to be treated honourably and see that they benefit from the government’s welfare schemes.”
