BSF captures fake currency of Rs 1,94,000 from West Bengal

Kolkata, February 5: BSF troops were successful to capture fake Indian currency notes (FICN) of face value Rs 1,94,000 from close to the Indo-Bangladesh border in Malda's Baishnabghata. But the convict ran away.

"Troops of the 24Bn BSF received information that FICN was likely to be trafficked through the Kamat/Khumberia link road towards Gulapgunj, Kaliachak. Troops from the Sabdalpur BOP and Farakka laid an ambush accordingly around 11.30 pm. On spotting a motorcyclist approach from the Kamat village, they chased him.

The man on the motorcycle slowed down before reaching the spot, turned his vehicle around and fled. During this process, a packet fell from his motorcycle," a senior BSF official said.

The troops recovered the packet later and found 97 new currency notes of Rs 2,000 face value each. The notes have been handed over to the Baishnabnagar police station. In 2018, the BSF's South Bengal Frontier has already seized FICN of face value Rs 4,68,000. One smuggler has also been apprehended.

Fake Indian notes are mainly used in terror-related activities. The money mainly flows from Nepal, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. The terrorists are using it to cripple the Indian economy and to create economic terror.
