Male, February 6: Situations of Maldives are getting worse as the President Abdullah Yameen has declared 15 days emergency in the country. This has led to a political crisis situation in the Maldives.

This Emergency gives sweeping powers to security forces to arrest and detain suspects. As the news of Emergency spread, a wave of protests broke out in the capital Male, with angry clashes between police and demonstrators. The government, however, maintained that Emergency was enforced for the welfare of citizens. "The state of emergency was enforced in order to protect the peace and welfare of all citizens and the country," Presidency Maldives tweeted.

Recently President had denied abiding the orders of Supreme Court. Recently Supreme Court of Maldives released former president Mohamed Nasheed and eight other opposition leaders which were jailed on corruption grounds.

Attorney General Mohammad Anil said that the government refuses to accept this order. Anil said, "Any decision of the Supreme Court to arrest the President is unconstitutional and illegal. That's why I have asked the police and the army not to comply with any unconstitutional order. "

The unrest began in 2015 when Nasheed, the country's first democratically elected leader, was jailed on "terrorism" charges relating to the arrest of a judge during his tenure. The trial declared unfair by the UN, prompted widespread protests and resulted in the arrest of hundreds of dissidents.
