California, February 7: “Artificial Intelligence will save us not destroy us,” said Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai. “AI is probably the most important thing humanity has ever worked on. I think of it as something more profound than electricity or fire,” he said. “Any time you work with technology, you need to learn to harness the benefits while minimizing the downsides,” he said.

While some thinkers – notably Professor Stephen Hawking – have warned that AI could wipe out mankind, Pichai was optimistic. He said that the technology could eliminate many of the constraints we now face, helping us for example to make “clean, cheap, reliable energy” a reality.

Even Google's artificial intelligence company DeepMind says it is capable of diagnosing optical diseases by analyzing retinal scans with its algorithms.

The technology suggests that advancements in computer vision and medicine may help alleviate the pressure on the NHS.

According to Google, AI makes it easier for everyone to do things every day, whether it’s searching for photos of people you love, breaking down language barriers, or helping you get things done with your own personal digital assistant. But it’s also providing us with new ways of looking at old problems and helping transform how we work and live, and we think the biggest impact will come when everyone can access it.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the ability of a computer program or a machine to think and learn. It is also a field of study which tries to make computers "smart". In general use, the term "artificial intelligence" means a machine which mimics human cognition. At least some of the things we associate with other minds, such as learning and problem solving can be done by computers, though not in the same way as we do.
