South African President’s fate in uncertainty as ANC postpones Wednesday’s meeting

Johannesburg, February 7: South African President Jacob Zuma’s fate hangs in uncertainty as much anticipated meeting of the African National Congress' (ANC) national executive has now been postponed to next week. The ANC had called a special meeting of its decision-making executive committee to be held on Wednesday in Cape Town.

"By the directive of the ANC President Cde Cyril Ramaphosa, we hereby inform you that after fruitful and constructive discussions between the ANC President and President of the Republic held this evening, president of the ANC, Cde Cyril Ramaphosa has postponed the Special NEC meeting to sit on the 17&18 Feb 2018,"a message sent by ANC says as quoted by a local newspaper.

Earlier, he resisted several calls to step down. Zuma is drowned in allegations, charges of corruption, as well as the poor economic condition, prompts more anger against him. In December, he was replaced as leader of the ANC by Cyril Ramaphosa, the deputy president. Since then, his position even within the party has weakened.

Next year there’s an election in South Africa. Before that, ANC does not want a power struggle due to Zuma. They are expected to remove President Zuma through a formal recall or by introducing a motion in parliament. A struggling economy and charge of corruption are the main source of the anger.
