JK Police arrested two terrorists, two OGW for helping Mohammed Naveed Jat escape from SMHS hospital

Jammu, February 8: Jammu and Kashmir police on Thursday arrested four people including two terrorists, two other Over Ground Worker (OGW) in connection with firing in Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) Hospital on 6th February in which two policemen were martyred.

 

Notably, as many as two policemen were martyred after Mohammed Naveed Jat, who was taken for a routine check-up at the Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital, opened fire on Tuesday. Jat is known to be a close associate of Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Abu Qasim, and was arrested from Kulgam in 2014.

A day after the attack, terrorist group Hizbul Mujahideen claimed responsibility for the attack. Its commander Riyaz Naikoo released an eight-minute audio clip in which he said his men raided the hospital to free Jat, alias Abu Hanzula. Jat had reached South Kashmir safely, he added.

After arresting two terrorists and two other Over Ground Worker, Jammu and Kashmir ADGP Muneer Khan held a press conference on Thursday and said that the police today arrested four people involved in the escape act. He said, "Two terrorists and two over-ground workers were arrested in a raid conducted by the SIT in connection with firing in SMHS Hospital on 6th February."

"Due to the firing we lost two of our officials and in this process, this Pakistani terrorist managed to escape. Immediately after the incident, an SIT was constituted to inspect all the aspects of this escape," Muneer Khan noted.

DGP Muneer Khan further said, "The SIT started a probe and on the basis of scientific evidence, we ascertained who or what were involved. They were identified and raids were conducted." "After their arrest, we are left with Naveed and another terrorist, who are still at large," he added.

Responding to a question in a press conference, Muneer Khan said, "It is not like 'you couldn't catch them, they overtook us,' no! Appreciate officers' efforts who cracked the case in limited time. We could have fired in hospital but we would have killed civilians. We are police officers, not terrorists. We don't believe in killing innocents, they do."
