Fighting a taboo worldwide: Pad Man becomes first Bollywood film to release in Russia, Ivory Coast, Iraq

Mumbai, February 8: Even before its release, Akshay Kumar starrer PadMan directed by R Balki is creating history. The film, raising voice against a long-term social stigma, is going to be the first Bollywood film to hit screens of Russia, Ivory Coast, Iraq for the first time ever.

The film was earlier scheduled to release on 26th January but due to the release of Padmavaat, producers postponed the release. As per new schedule, the film will hit the silver screens of India on 9th February. On the same day, it will release in the mentioned countries making a new history for Indian films.

"I once told my Pad Man that I will take him places... Well, not only will Pad Man release in 50 countries all over the world but It is Bollywood's first film that will be releasing day and date in Russia, Ivory Coast and even Iraq," Twinkle tweeted on Wednesday.

During menstruation, every woman endures tremendous pain sometimes. But instead of proper hygienic care, medical care, a stigma isolates them, does not allow them to enter temple, participate in social activities. In remote corners of country till now citizens are not aware of menstrual health. Against the typical commercial movies, Pad Man is definitely an example how Films can raise social issues.

Pad Man is based on a short story in Twinkle Khanna's book The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad and is inspired by the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, a social activist from Tamil Nadu.The activist revolutionized the concept of menstrual hygiene in rural India by creating low-cost sanitary napkins machine.Padman revolves around the story of Arunachalam who invented low-cost sanitary pads.
