Big thunderbolt to the Congress party as four members joins hands with Nitish Kumar

Bihar, March 1: The State of Bihar has been in news for quite a few days mainly after former Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi disconnected ties with the NDA. The latest in the series of news in state’s politics is that the state unit of Congress has expelled four MLCs including former Bihar Congress President Ashok Choudhary for alleged anti-party activities. All four former Congressmen, led by Ashok will join Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United).

 

Congress state president Kaukab Quadri announced the dismissal of the four party legislators in together. While other three expelled MLCs are Dileep Choudhary, Tanvir Akhtar and Ramchander Bharti. The four accused party general secretary C P Joshi of having treated them as "objects" that were supposed to be "used and thrown".

Ashok Choudhary said, "People like us who worked for the party were sidelined. The four of us have decided that we are bidding goodbye to the party and going to JD(U).”

The split in the Congress party was seen to be forthcoming for some time as Ashok was skeptical of the party for quite some time and was perceived to be close to Nitish. He was sacked from the post of Bihar Congress president in September by then party high-command Sonia Gandhi.

Ashok Choudhary was accused of creating a split in the party and had apparently taken signatures of few party legislatures to jump ships. However, he could not garner the support of enough MLAs to overcome the anti-defection law. Congress has 27 MLAs in the Bihar Assembly.

Talking about the split he futher stated that he and three other MLCs including Tanvir Akhtar, Dilip Choudhary and Ramchandra Bharti have decided to join the JD(U). Also he has requested the Deputy Chairperson to accord separate status to group of four MLCs in the upper house of state Legislature.

Meanwhile, Former Bihar Chief Minister and Hindustani Awam Morcha President Jitan Ram Manjhi on Wednesday joined RJD-led Grand alliance. On confirming the news he said that he was feeling uncomfortable in the NDA after the Alliance joined hands with Nitish Kumar led JD(U) in the state.
