Mumbai, March 1: As the season of summer is on the way to arrive it brings happiness, excitement on one side while fatigue, restlessness on the other side as well. Summer vacations attract children making them excited and they rush towards ice creams parlors, ice slush parlors to relish themselves. But this year’s summer will be hotter than the normal summer says the meteorological department.

The pre-monsoon months this year - March, April, and May - will be warmer than normal and the heatwave will hit 16 states earlier due to various reasons, the IMD said on Wednesday.

According to a press release of IMD issued, The seasonal average maximum temperature is likely to be warmer than normal by ≥1 °C over Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, HCD (Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi), Himachal Pradesh, west and east Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, west and east Uttar Pradesh, west and east Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Gujarat and Arunachal Pradesh.

“There is about 52% probability of grid point maximum temperatures in the core heat wave zone during March to May 2018 to be above normal. Core Heat Wave zone covers states of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Orissa and Telangana and meteorological subdivisions of Marathwada, Vidarbha, Madhya Maharashtra and coastal Andhra Pradesh. This, in turn, suggests that normal to above normal heat wave conditions are likely in the core HW zone during the season” says the report.

Currently, the city is facing high temperatures than normal and is likely to continue for a couple of days. “The heatwave conditions are for isolated parts of the Konkan coast, including Mumbai, due to a lower-level anti-cyclonic circulation over Gujarat and parts of Maharashtra, which is bringing warm easterly to north-easterly winds over Mumbai and the surrounding areas, the easterly winds are also not allowing the sea breeze [cool westerly winds] to settle over the city fast enough” says IMD.
