Afghanistan: 100 militants killed, 16 soldiers martyred in past 24 hours

Kabul, March 10: At least 100 militants were killed and 38 others were severely injured in various provinces during security operations over the past 24 hours in Afghanistan.

The Afghanistan Defence Ministry said “99 rebels were killed, 38 wounded and 15 suspects detained during the period in Nangarhar, Laghman, Kapisa, Ghazni, Paktika, Paktia, Kandahar, Zabul, Uruzgan, Badghis, Farah, Takhar, Kunduz and Helmand provinces.”

Nearly 40 militants were killed in Kandahar’s Maiwand and Spin Boldak districts, 14 in Helmand’s Kajaki, Nawa, Nad Ali and Sangin districts.

The statement said 10 insurgents were killed in Qadis district of Badghis province and eight others were wounded and nine were killed in Mizan district and provincial capital Qalat of Zabul province.

Another nine militants were injured and their one car and eight bikes were confiscated in the Zabul operation. Eight militants were killed and one was injured in Andar district of Ghazni.

Six militants were killed in Paktia’s Zurmat district and five in Bala Bolok district. Three militants were killed in Nangarhar’s Surkhrod district and as many in Imam Sahib district of Kunduz province, the statement said.

Near the capital of Paktika, two militants were killed, one rebel was killed in Tirinkot, the capital of central Uruzgan province.

Meanwhile, the officials in northeastern Takhar province of Afghanistan are saying that sixteen security personnel have been martyred in militants attack.

Provincial governor’s spokesman Sanatullah Temor said the attack was carried out by a large number of militants in Khaja Ghar district.
