U’khand establishes world's 1st UNESCO Center for Natural Heritage Management and Training

Dehradun, March 11: The world's first UNESCO category-2 Center for World Natural Heritage Management and Training for Asia and Pacific Region, established in Dehradun, will train 51 countries around the world regarding natural heritage and environment.

 

On Saturday, the Union Forest, Environment and Climate Change Minister Dr. Harshvardhan inaugurated the center building. He said that in the center the scientists must develop a model of natural heritage and environmental protection, which is exemplary for all the countries of the world.

The UNESCO category Two Center building is built in the Indian Wildlife Institute (WII) complex. The building was inaugurated on August 30, 2015 by Union Forest and Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar.

 

On the opening ceremony on Saturday, UNESCO Director Dr. McField (France) and ICUN Director Tim Badman sent a video message from Switzerland congratulating Union Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan and Director of the Center Dr. VB Mathur. On this occasion, the Director General Forest and Environment said that the number of elephants, tigers, lions and crocodiles is increasing in the country, whereas in many countries their species has become endangered.

Additionally he said that Kedarnath is being developed as a smart religious tourist destination. With the construction of ropeway from Gaurikund to Kedarnath, the lines of power will be underground and communication network is being improved here. Kedarnath Rebuilding is included in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's dream project.
