New Delhi, March 13: Now no need to worry about linking your Aadhaar with bank accounts, mobile numbers or various schemes as the deadline has been extended indefinitely by the Supreme Court. This would mean that the March 31 deadline for linking of Aadhaar will no longer apply.

"The government cannot insist for mandatory Aadhaar even for the issuance of Tatkal passport," the Supreme Court said.

The linkage with Aadhaar need not be done till the Supreme Court delivers its judgment in the matter. The five-judges Constitution bench of the Supreme Court today extended this deadline till the disposal of petitions challenging the Constitutional validity of Aadhaar. But this extension is not applicable to availing services and subsidies under section 7 of Act. On December 15, 2017 the Bench extended the deadline till March 31.

The order was passed by the Constitution Bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices AK Sikri, AM Khanwilkar, DY Chandrachud and Ashok Bhushan.

Earlier the apex court had last year extended the deadline to March 31.
