Kathmandu, March 14: As per preliminary reports, the tragic Nepal plane crash at Kathmandu airport was the cause of an abnormal landing by the aircraft, Nepal's aviation watchdog Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) stated.

Acoording to The Kathmandu Post, the exact cause of the crash remains unclear. The authorities have started investigation. The initial reports video and audio recordings—indicate the 78-seater US-Bangla Airlines Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 aircraft had sustained a technical issue.

Passengers who survived the crash said sustained shuddering few minutes before the crash followed a loud bang.

The Nepal government has already formed a six-member probe panel under the coordination of former Director General at the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), Yagya Prasad Gautam.

Sanjib Gautam said that although the ATC requested the US-Bangla flight for a proper landing, the pilots didn't declare an emergency while landing.

“We have reached an understanding to submit the report within five months. However, there is no official set deadline,” added DG Gautam.

The probe panel has also briefed the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh with the available details of the crash.

Meanwhile, CAAN has said that the radio conversation between Air Traffic Controller at TIA and flight pilot, which was leaked to the media, was unlawful and that the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) will conduct investigation into the matter.

Meanwhile, the Bangladeshi flight was carrying 71 passengers when it crashed on the airport runway and skidded its way into a nearby football field. The death toll has reached to 49, while 22 others are injured.
