New Delhi, March 15: The Defence Ministry told the Lok Sabha that there were a total of 17 human rights violation cases against the Armed forces in last three years, of which 12 were proved to be false.

Defence MoS Subhash Bhamre said that five cases are currently under investigation. He added that the Centre is practising 'zero tolerance' for rights violations and all the allegations are being investigated thoroughly.

“Requisite sensitisation of all ranks and training at various levels on Human Rights issues is being ensured and Human Rights training is imparted regularly to the Armed Forces personnel.”

In addition, Human Rights training forms an important part of the Pre-Induction training (PIT) of the troops in the Corps Battle Schools, before deployment in Counter Insurgency / Counter Terrorism (CI/CT) operations, Bhamre said.

Defence MoS further said that the Human Rights aspects are also enshrined in the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) commandments, which are reiterated to all the troops before conduct of any operation.
