Giving wings to new and creative ideas, innovation cell to be set up soon

New Delhi, March 15: Innovation is the key to success! Resonating creativity and innovation together, efforts to craft new ideas and concepts easily bring out new methods of invention. To further strengthen the innovation efforts the Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar decided to set up innovation cell.

This cell is viewed to comprise of Scientist, Ministry officials and young talents which come together to table down new ideas and innovations. The decision was taken which deliberated on the need for such a cell after India moved six ranks up at the Global Innovation Index Ranking. The country stood at 66th position in 2016, whereas it ranked 60th in 2017, out of 127 countries.

According to HRD officials, the strongest points for the country happen to be a large number of science and engineering graduates, the increased investment by global research and development companies in India, the improved QS University rankings and high rank in the highly cited research publication, global leadership in the IT service experts and leadership in export of creative goods.

Javadekar said, "There has been considerable improvement in India's ranking in Global Innovation Index 2017. Since the large part of this index relates to education, the setting up of innovation cell in the ministry will lead to more focused attention on innovation and research efforts."

Also, allocation of funds through Higher Education Funding Agency (HEFA) for fast-tracking Innovation and Research infrastructure in country's top central technical institutions and Prime Minister's Research Fellowship (PMRF) to 1000 top students from these institutions is also expected to grant the necessary push to India's Innovation and Research efforts.
