New Delhi, March 15: “Pakistan envoy Sohail Mahmood to India has been called back for consultation. It’s a routine and not a recall” said Spokesperson for Ministry of External Affairs Raveesh Kumar while speaking during the press conference. This press was held to discuss on the so-called ‘harassing’ treatment given to the envoys of both the nations.

On Thursday Pakistan called back its High Commissioner Sohail Mahmood to hold consultations regarding alleged harassment with its diplomats from Indian authorities.

Just like normal routine, at any point in time as and when necessary our Ambassadors and High Commissioners from abroad they do come to India for consultations on a variety of issues, MEA Kumar said.

Replying to the allegations, MEA Raveesh Kumar said that we are looking into issues raised by their side. We will respond to charges of harassment through diplomatic channels. We have asked for resolution from Pakistan to ensure safety of Indian envoy to Pakistan.

"We don't wish to respond the issues through the media, but through diplomatic channels. We have taken this matter up several times. These things should be raised through diplomatic channels and we did that. We expect the issues to be resolved," he added.

We want Pakistani authorities to address the issues raised by the US, said Raveesh Kumar.

Further he stressed saying that our High Commission in Islamabad is facing many issues, we did not raise it through media. We would like our HC to function normally as per the Vienna Convention. We would like our mission to function normally without any obstruction or harassment in keeping with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations 1961, he added.

While addressing the press conference ahead, Raveesh Kumar also informed saying that the “President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier will visit India from March 22nd to 25th. This will be his first visit as the President, apart from Delhi he will visit Varanasi & Chennai.”
