Here are the updates on Ramayana Circuit echoed in Rajya Sabha

New Delhi, March 15: Ramayana Circuit a project to develop the destinations which are related to Lord Rama. 11 destinations spread across 6 states have been proposed. The destinations covered are: Ayodhya, Nandigram, Shringhverpur & Chitrakoot (Uttar Pradesh); Sitamarhi, Buxar & Darbhanga (Bihar); Jagdalpur (Chattisgarh); Bhadrachalam (Telangana); Hampi (Karnataka); and Rameshwaram (Tamil Nadu). Expert committee suggested to include Chitrakoot (Madhya Pradesh), Nashik & Nagpur (Maharashtra) and Mahendragiri (Odisha) in the proposed circuit.

K. J. Alphons, MoS for Tourism said in Rajya Sabha that Ramayana Circuit is one of the fifteen thematic circuits identified for development under Swadesh Darshan scheme of Ministry of Tourism. Sitamarhi, Buxar, Darbhanga in Bihar are among the fifteen sites identified initially for development under this circuit in the country.

The State Government of Bihar has submitted a proposal for the development of Sitamarhi, Buxar and Darbhanga under Ramayana Circuit. A presentation on the project was made in the Ministry of Tourism on 13.02.2018 and based on discussion, the State Government has been requested to rework on the project as per scheme guidelines.

And also the circuit’s development under the scheme has a gestation period of 18-36 months. Under the Ramayana Circuit Scheme, a two days international conference for connecting the cultural heritage of Mithila and Awadh was conducted in Janakpur of Nepal, last year. The conference was organized by NGO Mithila Awadh Cultural Preservation Council. Experts of India and Nepal had participated in this international conference.
