Will make new strategy to tackle SP-BSP’s political negotiation: Yogi Adityanath

Lucknow, March 15: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who lost his home turf Gorakhpur to the Samajwadi Party in the by-polls, said overconfidence was one of the reasons for our defeat and we will form a strategy to tackle the SP-BSP alliance.

The chief minister and said the BJP would review shortcomings. He said he accepted the voters' verdict, and promised to introspect on the defeat.

While extending his good wishes to the winning candidates, the 45-year-old said they were unable to understand the rajnaitik saudebaazi between the SP and BSP.

"Now that they are a winning combination, the BJP will chalk out a strategy to thwart the march of the people who are out to block the development ushered in by the BJP governments at the Centre and in the state."

He, however, expressed confidence that this would have no impact on the general elections in 2019 in which national issues will play a dominant role and it will be a vote on the performance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

BJP lost its two heavyweight Lok Sabha constituencies Gorakhpur and Phulpur in Uttar Pradesh.

For the BJP, Gorakhpur is a particularly a significant blow for it is the bastion of the chief minister, who represented the seat in the Lok Sabha five times. Prior to Yogi Adityanath, the seat was thrice represented in Parliament by his mentor Yogi Avaidyanath.

Phulpur, which was won by Maurya by a huge margin in 2014 Lok Sabha polls showed Samajwadi Party leading since early trends. Yogi Adityanath had termed the bye-elections a rehearsal for the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
