CM Fadnavis pledges to make Maharashtra ‘cataract free’ by 2019

Mumbai, March 19: Maharashtra seems to be on the highway towards the healthy mission of getting ‘cataract free’ by next year. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stressed about Maharashtra to go ‘Cataract Free’ by 2019. 

Pledging to eradicate cataract CM Fadnavis inaugurated Madhav Netralaya Eye Institute & Research Centre in Nagpur in presence of Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and Union Health Minister J P Nadda along with Mananiya SarSanghChalakji Dr Mohan ji Bhagwat, Mananiya SarKaryawahji Bhayyaji Joshi.

 

While inaugurating the centre, CM Fadnavis said that this is a great beginning of Marathi New Year for Central India by Madhav Netralaya, which is contributing for eye donation(नेत्रदान) & eye care since many years.

 

“The number of patients affected by the disease is increasing. Today, the state has 17.5 lakh patients. We plan to conduct surgeries on all these patients and the government will bear the cost,” CM Fadnavis said.

Maharashtra Govt has taken an initiative of Cataract Free Maharashtra by July 2019, said CM Fadnavis.

Further CM Fadnavis informed that at least 175 operation theatres are working 10hours/day to achieve this. This new Madhav Netralaya Eye Institute will play an important role in making Nagpur the medical hub for Central India.

Minister Gadkari said every year; over five lakh accidents in the country kill 2.5 lakh people. “We will ask those applying for driving licence to pledge to donate their organs in case of an accident. We will also try to build helipads over hospitals to ensure organs reach at the earliest,” Minister Gadkari said.
