Indian Railways hands over the 18th diesel locomotive engine to Myanmar

Yangon, March 20: As a part of Indian Railways’ efforts to boost ties with the neighboring countries, handed over 18th diesel-electric locomotive to Myanmar Railways. MoS of Railway, Rajen Gohain attended the formal handing over ceremony in Myanmar on Monday.

 
All 18 locomotives are fitted with microprocessor control-based system, attaining a maximum speed of 100 km per hour and are customized for Myanmar Railways. The locos have been built by the Diesel Locomotive Works in Varanasi.
 
Speaking on the occasion, Rajen Gohain, MoS of Railways expressed his pleasure on the close cooperation between the two railway systems on regular basis since last 20 years. He congratulated Indian Railways in completing the project, much ahead of delivery schedule and providing locomotives with many contemporary new features over the earlier supplies. He thanked the Indian Embassy in Myanmar for their full coordination and assistance with the Myanmar authorities in the easy facilitation of the project.

On this event, U.Thant Sin Moung, Transportation and Communication Minister mentioned the valued cordial relationship between the two countries and how it can go beyond the present interaction. He showed a keen interest in the training programmes offered by the Indian Railways and on the Signaling and Telecommunication systems.

The locos have been built by the Diesel Locomotive Works in Varanasi.As per the agreement schedule, all locomotives were to be delivered by September, 2018.but it has been delivered six months ahead of the schedule.

The hand-over ceremony will be another significant milestone in the journey of Indo-Myanmar railways sector cooperation and enable both sides to look forward confidently to a future of other ambitious projects also.
