To add another feather in cordial relation, German President Steinmeier arrives in India on 4-day visit

New Delhi, March 22: In a bid to boost bilateral ties, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, along with his wife, Ekle Budenbender has arrived in New Delhi on a four-day visit to India.

The MoS for Drinking Water and Sanitation SS Ahluwalia has received the honoured guests in a grand ceremony. The President, who was being accompanied by CEOs and Indologists, will be visiting Varanasi and Chennai during his visit.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called German Chancellor Angela Merkel yesterday to congratulate her on assuming office for a fourth successive term. An official statement said, during the conversation, the Prime Minister lauded the strong leadership provided by Merkel to Germany, and the pivotal role played by the country in European affairs during her leadership.

PM Modi reiterated his commitment to continue working with Merkel for deepening and strengthening the relations between India and Germany. The Prime Minister said, he is looking forward to his forthcoming meeting with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

The visiting dignitary will hold meetings with President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will also call on the visiting dignitary. The German President is also scheduled to attend a business event in New Delhi and visit to Chennai.

India's relationship with Germany is amongst the foremost relations, bilaterally and in global context. Germany is India's largest trading partner in Europe and the 6th largest trading partner in the world.
