Mumbai, March 22: World Water Day is celebrated every year on 22nd March, which reminds us of water conservation, one of the most important elements to sustain life on the planet.

Today, the World Water Day is celebrated on 22 March. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also highlighted the importance of water power on the occasion of World Water Day on Thursday. During this time, he said that when people conserve water, it will benefit the cities, villages and the farmers. World Water Day is an opportunity to convey the importance of hydropower, and it is also an opportunity to accept our commitment to conserving water.

According to WHO, 2.1 billion people lack safe water at home affecting their health, education, and livelihoods.

Key facts:

1. In 2015, 71% of the global population (5.2 billion people) used a safely managed drinking-water service – that is, one located on premises, available when needed, and free from contamination.

2. 89% of the global population (6.5 billion people) used at least a basic service. A basic service is an improved drinking-water source within a round trip of 30 minutes to collect water.

3. 844 million people lack even a basic drinking-water service, including 159 million people who are dependent on surface water.

4. Globally, at least 2 billion people use a drinking water source contaminated with faeces.

5. Contaminated water can transmit diseases such diarrhoea, cholera, dysentery, typhoid, and polio. Contaminated drinking water is estimated to cause 502 000 diarrhoeal deaths each year.

6. By 2025, half of the world’s population will be living in water-stressed areas.

7. In low- and middle-income countries, 38% of healthcare facilities lack an improved water source, 19% do not have improved sanitation, and 35% lack water and soap for handwashing.

8. Sustainable Development Goal 6 commits the world to ensure that everyone has access to safe water by 2030, and includes targets for protecting the natural environment and reducing pollution.

The motive was that people will learn something from this day and retain water for their survival. But if the water does not save water then why should we save it, it will be water free from this thinking. And everyone will have to come forward together for this. This time the theme of Water Day is Nature for Water that is, finding a solution to this problem based on nature? So come, let's shield nature for this problem of nature.

Keeping in mind the value of water recycling and reusing, Israel gifted a water purification machine to India which can make any type of water potable and also can purify it. The machine named as Gal-Mobile is an independent, integrated water purification vehicle, designed to produce high-quality drinking water. It can be useful in natural disasters like floods, earthquakes, military use in difficult terrain and rural areas to provide drinkable water. It can purify up to 20,000 liters per day of seawater and 80,000 liters per day of brackish/muddy or contaminated river water and bring it to WHO standards.
