Dispur, March 23: Hailing women responsible for development Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal called on the women of Assam to act as a bridge between the government and society and take the message of the development schemes eliciting active public participation in the developing narrative of the State.

CM Sarbananda Sonowal was speaking at ‘Sahayika Samaroh’ as Chief Guest. The event was organised for generating awareness on government schemes amongst the women representatives of 219 development blocks of the State, at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra. The programme was organized jointly by the Social Welfare Department, Government of Assam, and the Assam State Social Welfare Board, in association with the ONGC.

The Samaroh was organised as a platform for the women representatives to get an understanding of development schemes implemented by government departments.

Highlighting the multifaceted role of women in society, CM Sonowal said that women would have to play a significant role in taking the developmental programmes of the government forward. “As mothers, women play an important role in their families. They must play similar role in building a developed society,” Sonowal added.

Stating that PM Narendra Modi gave the call for ‘women-led development’ in the country, the Chief Minister underlined State government initiatives for women’s empowerment to transform them as active partners of the development process and termed them as equal partners of development.

CM Sonowal also advised the representatives to establish regular contact with government officials to get in-depth understanding about the schemes. Further CM also underscored the need of ‘good people’ in society for good governance and urged the teachers and parents to instill ethical values among the young generation.
