Mumbai, March 27: The whole world is a stage you just need to keep performing! On the occasion of ‘World Theatre Day’, let us recall the significance that brought us to the real form of entertainment. Though we have many forms of entertainment today, let us not forget our roots i.e Theatre which is still surviving and winning millions of hearts.

“From playwrights, I had never heard of and performance forms I had never seen to sculpture and painting, I gained immense experience as an actor in National School of Drama (NSD). I discovered what discipline and good taste in the theatre means,” said Naseeruddin Shah during his Delhi Theatre show.

The theatre is the platform that speaks real, actor acts in real and ultimately audience enjoys in real. The amount of theatre that is being done on the commercial, as well as parallel stage in Marathi, is very inspiring. The Marathi theatre scene is the most happening in the whole of India.

Maharashtra has its own Marathi Theatre which is deeply rooted in various forms. Like in colleges in the form of Sawaai Ekankika Competition, the commercial plays, and ‘Dashavtari’ form that is well known in Konkan belt, ‘Sangeet Natak’, ‘Tamasha’ etc. All have their roots instilled in the seed called as ‘Theatre’.

The famous influencers like by Vijay Tendulkar, P. L. Deshpande, Mahesh Elkunchwar and Satish Alekar, influenced theatre throughout India. The first playwright responsible to take Marathi plays beyond the frontiers of Maharashtra and even India was Vijay Tendulkar. Plays like Gidhade, Sakharam Binder, Baby, Ghashiram Kotwal, Mitrachi Goshta, Kamala, Ashi Paakhare Yeti etc. created ripples throughout Maharashtra and elsewhere. Tendulkar stretched the limits of daring and experimentation in an otherwise conventional theatre tradition.

Also, Naseeruddin Shah learnt that ‘Acting can be learnt and cannot be taught.’ True, those human emotions can be perceived on our own; they cannot be instilled by some teachers or directors.
