Vietnamese Prez Tran Dai Quang calls on Sushma Swaraj; discusses ways to strengthen bilateral ties

New Delhi, March 3: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Saturday met Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral ties. Notably, Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang on a three-day visit to India in a bid to strengthen bilateral partnership with New Delhi to tackle China's growing influence.

 

External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar took to Twitter and informed about the meeting of two leaders. He tweeted, "EAM @SushmaSwaraj called on President of #Vietnam Tran Dai Quang. Discussion focused on steps to further strengthen our comprehensive strategic partnership by expanding cooperation across all sectors. #ActEastPolicy.”


Earlier, in the day, Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang received a ceremonial reception at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. He was received by President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi upon his arrival. Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang will also interact with prominent Indian businessmen. The Vietnamese President is also leading an 18-member delegation, including ministers, party leaders, and businessmen.


Earlier, in the year 2016, PM Modi visited Vietnam, a year before the two countries celebrated 45 years of honouring diplomatic ties. India and Vietnam signed 12 agreements in a wide range of areas covering IT, space, double taxation and sharing white shipping information. Importantly, India had also extended a USD 500 million Line of Credit to Vietnam for facilitating deeper defence cooperation between the two sides.
