10 Maoists including 6 women gunned down by security forces in Chhatisgarh

Raipur, March 3: At least 10 Maoists, including six women, were gunned down in an encounter near Telangana-Chhattisgarh border, early this morning. A commando from the anti-Maoist Greyhound team was also killed in the gunfight, police said.

A Greyhound Commando who was injured in the operation died later in hospital. Hari Bhushan, a top Telangana State Committee leader, was among those killed. Bhushan was known for his military tactics. Police recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition including one AK-47, one SLR, and five INSAS rifles.

The encounter broke out when a joint team of anti-Maoist Greyhounds from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and special police personnel from Odisha, Chattisgarh, and Maharashtra were conducting combing operations in the border areas near Pujari Kankar.

"The encounter started early morning in the Pujari Kanker forests where forces gunned down Maoists," the Special Director General, Anti-Naxal Operations, DM Awasthi, told.

Three other security personnel were also injured in the encounter, he said, adding that "The injured have been shifted to a hospital in Bhadrachalam and if required they will be shifted to a bigger hospital in Raipur" he added.

Recently 4 Maoists including two women were gunned down by the security forces.
