Sriharikota, March 30: India’s Space Organization ISRO in its successful launch of GSAT-6A satellite raised a bar higher on Thursday. ISRO Chairman K Sivan described the mission as a success and congratulated the scientists behind the mission. Sivan said the communication satellite was successfully placed in the designated orbit.

On Thursday evening, the 415.6-tonne rocket measuring 49.1 meters tall blasted off with the high power S-band communication satellite built on I-2K satellite bus with a 10-year life. This is the 12th flight of the GSLV-F08 and the 6th flight using indigenous Cryogenic upper stage.

A key feature of the satellite, is similar to GSAT-6, is providing mobile communication to India through multi beam coverage facility.

The satellite will also provide a platform for developing technologies such as demonstration of 6 m S-Band Unfurlable Antenna, handheld ground terminals and network management techniques that could be useful in satellite based mobile communication applications.

GSLV-F08, comes with notable improvements like induction of High Thrust Vikas Engine, electromechanical actuation system in place of electro-hydraulic actuation system.
