Mumbai, March 30: Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, who welcomed the one-year ban on Steve Smith and David Warner over the ball-tampering row, urged people to give the guilty some space.

Star Cricketer took to Twitter to appeal to people lashing out at them, saying that 'will have to live with the consequences of their act'. "Time for all of us to take a step back and give them some space," he added.

"Cricket has been known as a gentleman's game. It's a game that I believe should be played in the purest form. Whatever has happened is unfortunate but the right decision has been taken to uphold the integrity of the game. Winning is important but the way you win is more important," the 44-year-old said.

Earlier, Steve Smith, while addressing a press conference after reaching Australia, broke down in tears and said that he will regret his actions for the rest of his life. He said that he is sorry and devastated. He said that he takes full responsibility for the ball-tampering.

The Cricket Australia found all the three players guilty of breaching article 2.3.5 of Cricket Australia's Code of Conduct and were sent back home from South Africa on Thursday.
