Kabul, March 5: At least 13 Islamic state (IS) terrorists were killed in the airstrikes in Afghanistan's northern Jawzjan area yesterday. As per local media reports, two foreign insurgents who were the residents of Tajikistan district have also been killed in the airstrikes.

The airstrikes were conducted by the Afghan Air Force who targeted IS militants who were hiding in the Darzbab district. The clash between Afghan forces and Daesh in Darzab district is underway since last one week.

Jawzjan deputy police chief, Col. Abdul Hafeez Khashi said that NATO forces targeted Daesh hideouts with airstrikes in Chagana village of the district on Saturday night at around 2:00am.

He said 13 Daesh rebels including two Uzbikstanis fighters were killed and a number of others wounded during the overnight attack. He further said Afghan air forces transferred reinforcements and some weapons to the area this morning.

However, Col. Mohammad Ismail, the district police chief, said that clash was ended this morning. The airstrikes against the militants are very effective and they should continue until the situation controlled, he said.

“Two Daesh commanders were also killed in last night’s airstrike but their identity is kept hidden by the rebel group,” Ismail concluded.
