Election results changed popular perception about BJP, says Rajnath Singh

Shillong, Mar 6: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh Tuesday said that the election results of three states of the north-eastern region have changed the decade-old general perception that the region was a strong-hold of the Congress party alone.

The Home Minister accompanied by BJP National President Amit Shah had come here to participate in the swearing in ceremony of NPP-BJP coalition government’s chief minister Conrad Sangma and. It was for the first time that the BJP has established its supremacy in the region by bagging six of the seven states.

Talking to reporters the Home Minister said that the people in the country and also in the north east India believed that only Congress party could survive in this region. With the spectacular victory of the BJP that perception has been changed, he added.

The BJP had ousted Congress and Communists from Nagaland, Meghalaya and Tripura where the BJP had no political influence for years. The BJP on its own secured absolute majority and two-thirds majority with its ally IPTF in Tripura while it won 12 seats in Nagaland and two in Meghalaya and will be part of the coalition governments in Nagaland and Meghalaya.
