Unfortunate! 31 killed, dozen others injured after truck fell into pit in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar

Gandhinagar, March 6: At least thirty-one people were killed and a dozen others were injured after a truck fell into a pit from a bridge near Randhora village in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar district on Tuesday morning. Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his condolences to the families of those killed.

 

PM Modi on a twitter said, “My condolences to all those who lost their loved ones due to an accident near Ranghola in Gujarat. The accident was extremely unfortunate and anguishing. May those who have been injured recover at the earliest.”


Notably, a truck carrying as many as 60 members of a wedding party fell into a pit from a bridge near Randhora village in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar district. In an unfortunate accident, thirty-one people including 10 women and five children were killed while dozen others were injured.

The injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals immediately after the accident took place. Relief and rescue operations are currently underway. District Collector Harshad Patel said the deceased included 10 women and five children.

Bhavnagar’s in-charge Superintendent of Police, I M Sayed said, “The truck was carrying around 60 people from Anida village, who were going to attend a wedding ceremony in Botad district.” “The truck fell into the pit when its driver tried to overtake another vehicle on the bridge in the morning hours. 31 people died on the spot while one died at a hospital during treatment,” he added.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has directed the district administration to ensure that injured were taken to hospitals for treatment in nearby hospitals. He immediately announced Rs.4 lakh ex-gratia each for the kin of those killed in the tragic road accident near Ranghola on Rajkot-Bhavnagar highway.

He on a twitter said, “Saddened by the loss of lives due to a road accident near Ranghola. May those who have been injured recover at the earliest. I pray for the departed souls. Om Shanti.” “Guj CM @vijayrupanibjp has announced Rs.4 lakh ex-gratia each for the kin of those killed in the tragic road accident near Ranghola on Rajkot-Bhavnagar highway and also directed the concerned authorities to extend all possible help to the injured and family members of the victims,” he said in another tweet.
