PM Modi reviews preparations of ambitious 'Ayushman Bharat' Yojana

New Delhi, March 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Monday reviewed the progress of preparations towards the launch of Ayushman Bharat the National Health Protection Scheme announced in the recent Union Budget.

The Government has announced two path breaking initiatives as a part of ‘Ayushman Bharat’ that address health holistically, impacting primary, secondary and tertiary care system as well as prevention and health promotion. It is seen that almost 1.5 lakh health and wellness centres will provide people-centric complete primary health care including for common non-communicable diseases closer to the homes of people including providing free essential drugs and diagnostics

The second initiative under ‘Ayushman Bharat’ is the National Health Protection Scheme, under which over 10 crore poor and vulnerable families (approx. 50 crore beneficiaries) will be provided treatment coverage up to Rs. 5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization.

At a high-level meeting over two hours, the Prime Minister was apprised of the work done so far, by top officials of PMO, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and NITI Aayog, for smooth roll-out of the scheme.

 

The Prime Minister also reviewed preparations for delivering comprehensive primary health care through health and wellness centres. The beneficiaries will be able to avail cashless benefits across India.

The Prime Minister urged officials to work towards a well-designed and targeted scheme, which delivers benefits to the poor and weaker sections of society.
