Jalandhar, March 6: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Tuesday strictly ordered a probe against illegal mining on the Sutlej banks in Phillaur and Rahon.

Notably, after co-incidentally spotting illegal mining at many places in the Sutlej river around Phillaur and Rahon, while on his way to Kartarpur in a helicopter, Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh immediately ordered a strict probe in this regard.

CM Capt Amarinder Singh took to a twitter informing about the illegal mining on the banks of Sutlej River with aerial photos taken from his helicopter. He on a twitter said, “Was on my way to Kartarpur when I saw some JCB machines evidently engaged in illegal mining on the Sutlej banks in Phillaur (Jalandhar) & Rahon (Nawanshahr). Immediately ordered a probe and asked the concerned DCs and SSPs to seize the equipment. Responsibility will be fixed.”

However, the aerial survey of the Sutlej river was not in the program of the CM Amarinder Singh’s scheduled visit to Kartarpur, but he spotted illegal mining in the Sutlej while flying over the Sutlej river in a chopper. CM Amarinder Singh ordered the deputy commissioners and district police chiefs of Jalandhar and Nawanshahar to immediately start a probe and send police for the confiscation of JCB machines and vehicles engaged in the mining and lifting of sand and gravel from the bed of the river.

This comes few weeks after, CM Amarinder Singh ordered the Punjab Police for an immediate crackdown on illegal mining. But the state police doesn’t seem of having taken any action against illegal mining.
