New Delhi, March 7: In a sweet gesture on the occasion of International Women Day, Ministry of Railways has set up unique Breastfeeding cabins. Starting with Kollam, a wonderful initiative has been taken under which mothers can comfortably and safely breastfeed their babies inside cabins being built at railway stations.

The project is implemented by the Rotary Club of Royal City with the cooperation of railways and was inaugurated by Rotary Governor Suresh Mathew.

Two breastfeeding cabins have already been set up in Kollam as the initial part of the project

The cabins were planned to set up in bus stands in the beginning, but later the location was shifted to the railway station as the cabins are likely to be misused in bus stands due to the lack of security staff, said Kollam Royal City President Prakashan Pillai.

He added that they arranged the facility considering the need for privacy of mothers to breastfeed their babies.

The cabins are set up in the waiting room for ladies at the stations. The cabins are painted in pink colour and carry a representative of picture of a woman breastfeeding her child. Each cabin is equipped with a seat for mother, fan, and light. The cabin also provides a tiny space for stuffing the belongings temporarily.
