Every drop counts! 15 Kashmiri boys returned home leaving terrorism: JK Police chief SP Vaid

Srinagar, March 7: At least 15 young Kashmiri boys have left the path of violence and terrorism and came back to the mainstream after footballer Majid Khan renounced insurgency last November on his mother’s request. This was said by Jammu and Kashmir Director General of police Shesh Paul Vaid on Tuesday in a press briefing.

 

The press briefing comes a day after a young boy who had earlier joined terrorist has left the path of violence and destruction and came back to the mainstream on his parents’ appeal. In a press briefing, DGP SP Vaid said, “The latest among these returnees this March were two young men who responded to their parents’ appeal to leave the path of violence.”

He further said, “Some 15 boys have returned since Majid Khan’s return. Every drop counts. Whatever little it is, their lives and their families are saved from getting ruined.” Lauding the efforts of state police, SP VAID said that police too have a hand in bringing the militants back to society. “Officers talk to the families of known militants to persuade them to leave the armed struggle,” he added.

SP Vaid said that the identity of these returnees is kept a secret to keep them safe, secure and harm free. The string of local Kashmiris coming back to mainstream started after a Majid Khan returned to his family. Majid Khan, a resident of Anantnag in south Kashmir was the first to surrender and came back to the mainstream after his parents urged him.

Majid surrendered to the police on 17 of November last year. He was a student and a popular football goalkeeper who later joined Laskar-e-Toiba terror outfit. After Majid, one more youth from north Kashmir’s Baramulla district who had joined militancy returned home safely. According to the official sources, as many as 206 terrorists were killed by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir in 2017 of which 85 were residents of the valley.
