New Delhi March 7: To save electricity and back municipalities for energy consumption, now 49 lakh LED lights are illuminating India's streets. Continuing the efforts, 1.3 Crores conventional street lights will be replaced with energy-efficient LED lights.

Street Light National Programme (SLNP) is an initiative of the government to promote energy efficiency in the country, which is conducting this mammoth task.

With the installation of Led lights, India will annually save energy around 900 Crores units and the total cost savings of municipalities every year will be around Rs 5,500 Crores. This will be done, with the help of Energy Efficiency Service Limited (EESL), a joint venture company of Public Sector Undertakings under Ministry of Power.

Minister of State for Power, RK Singh told the Parliament that EESL has conducted case studies on the implementation of LED streetlights projects in Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan.
