After MHA issues advisory, Rajnath Singh strictly orders political parties to deal sternly against ‘vandalism’

New Delhi, March 7: After the violence lashed out in Tripura over demolishing Lenin’s statue, Ministry of Home Affairs issued advisory today to take strict actions against those ‘vandalizing statues’ across country. Also Union Minister Rajnath Singh directed all the political parties to ensure that those found vandalizing statues are dealt with strictly and said such incidents of vandalism can never be justified. 

"I appeal to everyone, all parties that anyone indulging in such acts should be dealt with strictly. These incidents can never be justified," Rajnath Singh said outside Parliament.

Prime Narendra Modi also expressed his strong disapproval of statues being vandalised in parts of the country and spoken to the home minister on the matter.

Two statues of Communist icon Lenin were brought down in Tripura following the BJP's emphatic win in the State over the Left, which was in power for more than 25 years.

A statue of social reformer and founder of Dravidian movement EV Ramasamy Periyar was also allegedly vandalised in Tamil Nadu's Vellore district last night.

Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba had also spoken to the DGP and asked that all steps be taken to maintain law and order, check violence and restore peace and public order.

Meanwhile on Tuesday after the violence erupted Home Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to the State Governor Tathagata Roy and Director General of Police A.K Shukla and asked them to ensure peace till a new government is installed. Fed up with 25 years of Communist rule, a statue of Lenin was demolished at Belonia town in South Tripura wich led to the eruption of violence. Tripura witnessed a change in the rule after 25 years in the recently concluded assembly elections by winning the hearts of people.

During the telephonic calls, Governor Tathagata Roy and DGP A. K. Shukla informed the Union Home Minister about the prevailing situation in Tripura and steps taken to control the violence, which erupted following the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) alliances victory over the Communist Party of India-Marxist, ousting the Manik Sarkar-led government in the just-concluded Assembly elections.

Rajnath Singh asked the governor and the DGP to check all kinds of violence and ensure peace till a new government is installed in Tripura, the Home Ministry Official said.
