Hyderabad, March 7: With a view to empower the women work force and to develop their morale and self-confidence, South Central Railway has taken initiative to make Chandragiri railway station in Guntakal Division, an ‘All Women Station’ by organizing women staff.

The women will be seen handling all the day to day activities including train operations, ticketing, security and other relevant duties. Though the concept was not new in Indian Railways or even in South Central Railway, it will be the first in Guntakal division. SCR General Manager Vinod Kumar Yadav will formally inaugurate the ‘all women railway station’ on Tuesday.

Coinciding with International Women’s Day on 8th March, two more stations like Begumpet Railway Station on Secunderabad Division considered as one of the busiest suburban stations in Hyderabad City and Phirangipuram Railway station on Guntur Division of South Central Railway will be completely equipped by women staff.

While Begumpet railway station, is planning to deploy 8 women Commercial Clerks, 4 Enquiry Cum Reservation Clerks, 6 Constables and 01 Sub-Inspector of Railway Protection Force to handle the day to day operations and to provide smooth and hassle free service to passengers. At Phirangipuram railway station, it is planned to post a total of 11 women staff which includes 3 Assistant Station Masters, 6 Points Women and 2 Railway Protection Force Constables.

The General Manager will also inaugurate sanitary napkin vending machine in ladies waiting room in Tirupati railway station. Users can get on napkin by dropping a Rs.5 coin in it and dispense the used ones which will be burnt automatically.

Sweeping out the traditional taboo inherited on the women and empowering them is leading India towards a progressive path.
