Chennai, March 7: Makkal Needhi Maiam Chief and Actor Kamal Hassan today slammed BJP leader H Raja for making objectionable comments on veteran Tamil Thinker Periyar. Expressing displeasure over the unfortunate incident where the statue of Periyar was vandalized by alleged BJP member following the controversial Facebook post of BJP Leader Raja. Later, the BJP National secretary issued a clarification on the social media comments on Periyar.

The MNM President alleged that deliberate attempts are being made to divert attention from Cauvery issue. Referring to the other developments of statue destructions in a state like Tripura, West Bengal, and UP Hassan took a jibe and said, “There is no need to deploy police for protection of Periyar Statue. We Tamilians will protect it.”
