New Delhi, March 8: Sharing his inspiration on the Women's Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered Chhattisgarh's late social activist Kunwar Bai, who was made a mascot of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

"Kunwar Bai, who died earlier this year at the age of 106. Hailing from Chhattisgarh, she sold her goats in order to build toilets. Her contribution towards a Swachh Bharat can never be forgotten. I am deeply inspired by her noble gesture," he tweeted.

It is noteworthy that Kunwar Bai was a resident of Dhamtari district, Chhattisgarh. Impressed with the Clean India Mission of PM Modi, she had given an important contribution in creating public awareness for hygiene.

On February 21, 2016 during his Chhattisgarh visit, PM Modi had touched feet of Kunwar Bai at the massive public gathering held in Kurrubhat (Dongargarh Tehsil).

On the occasion Prime Minister Modi had said about her- "Today I have got the opportunity to take blessings from 104-year-old Ma Kunwar Bai. People who consider themselves as young, should decide for themselves whether their thoughts and vision are also young".

PM Modi said "104-year-old Ma Kunwar Bai neither watches television, nor she is educated, but she came to know that Prime Minister of the country is calling upon people to build toilets at home. She used her little income she earned by selling goats to build toilet in her house and also inspired other villagers to build toilets. This vision of senior citizen such as Kunwar bai reflects the ongoing revolutionary changes in the country. I salute her."

The income she earned by selling goats, she utilized in building toilet in the house and also encouraged fellow villagers for the same. All 18 houses in her village now have toilets, and this village has been declared as ODF.
