Uttar Pradesh hosts Swachh Shakti 2018 to spread message of sanitation at grassroots

Lucknow March 8: With an aim to achieve an Open-Defection Free India by 2nd October 2019, Uttar Pradesh Government has organized an event of Swachh Bharat champions, in which 15,000 women make participation as Swachh Shakti. 

 

To spread the message of sanitation across the state, there was an exhibition on Swachh Bharat, the launch of a film celebrating Swachh Shakti and flagging off 30 Swatchhta Raths.

On this occasion, Chief Minister, Adityanath Yogi, said that Swachh Shakti movement will help women empowerment of access to safe sanitation, drinking water, employment generation for rural women, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and Ujjwala that will all change the lives of women.

Further, Minister of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Uma Bharati, said that the UP government is committed to making the state Open Defecation Free by October 2018 and she also refers, for every woman and adult girl’s it is right to have access to a wide choice of products for Menstrual Hygiene Management.

The Swachh Bharat Mission efforts have made Open Defecation Free (ODF) which include, 314 districts, 3.23 lakh villages and  Nine states which are fully declared as Open Defecation Free, are Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Gujarat, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Meghalaya, and Chhattisgarh.

8000 women sarpanches, 3000 women Swachhagrahis and women champions from other walks of life from across the country were recognized for their outstanding contribution towards making a Swachh Bharat.

Across the country, many States are holding public events to honor Women Swachhata Champions as a part of Swach Shakti 2018.Last year, 6000 women sarpanches from across the country had gathered in Gujarat on the occasion of International Women’s Day of Swachh Shakti 2017.
