From serving passenger to now serving ‘nation’: Meet Maharashtra’s Om Paithane

Pune, March 9: An inspirational story of Om Paithane is a path-breaking for strugglers, from belonging to a humble family and getting an opportunity from one of the passenger’s advice as an Ola cab driver to finally joining the Indian Army. He is among the 257 young trainees in the armed services, who will pass out from Officer Training Academy (OTA) on March 10.

 
On speaking about his father, Om Paithane said, my father was a driver who had lost both his legs in a road accident and was working as a watchman. I had to support the family while studying for final year BSc computer science, with having a debt that remains unpaid, I had no option but start driving an Ola cab.

Om Paithane life changed when a Col. Bakshi met him as a passenger when he was driving a cab and in between having a communication on a career making for his Life, Col Bakshi said, about the opportunities in the armed forces and the Combined Defence Service (CDS) exams. He also spoke about Col. Bakshi who was a then Director Armed Forces Officers Selections Orientation Programme.

While struggling in the family, brother Adinath who works with the HR Department in TCS, Pune; said, it has changed Om’s life and personality. The way people look at him and his uniform, am humble and grateful to all the people, including Col. Bakshi Sir, who showed him the interest in Army.

The inspirational people like Cadet Om Paithane are the real examples of courage and determination, they teach us about life and how everything is possible with continuous efforts and strong willpower.
