Pune, April 10: For the 1st time ever, Maharashtra becomes India’s first state to allow Aadhaar verification for property registration. Now the property buyers will be able to register their properties simply through Aadhaar verification. Aadhaar verification will also save time and be queuing up for registration.

Earlier, the third witness had to go through a tedious process at the sub-registrar’s office. He/she would be required to produce photos, identity cards, thumb impression, affidavit and so on. These requirements would delay the procedure and take up to an entire day. The new systems aim at reducing the time and crowd at offices.

The state inspector-general of registration (IGR) office in Pune received the sanction from the state government saying, that a witness is no more required while registering the property.

Deputy inspector-general of registration (IGR) Supriya Karmarkar said, “An amendment was made to Section 32A of the Registration Act, 1908 to introduce the new system. Aadhaar verification will fulfil the requirements.”

She added, “Almost every person in the state has an Aadhaar card. In case they do not, it will be mandatory to carry an independent witness.”

According to sources, earlier, this system was used while registering the leave and license registrations. Now, it will be done for the registration of new properties. This move will also reduce the unwanted crowd at the registration offices which are already facing the issue of lack of infrastructure.
