Indian hockey team cruises to semi finals of #GoldCoastCommonwealthGames ; defeats Malaysia by 2-1

Gold Coast, April 10: The Indian hockey team on Tuesday produced a high voltage victory against Malaysia by 2-1 and raced to semi-finals of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. It was drag flick specialist Harmanpreet Singh, scored both the goals for team India to seal their place in semi-finals while Faizal Saari pulled off the lone goal for Malaysia in the 16th minute of the match. 

As soon as the match started, Harmanpreet put India ahead as early as in the third minute of the match by converting the penalty corner into a goal. However, Malaysia did a strong comeback after Faizal Saari pulled off the lone goal for Malaysia in the 16th minute of the match.


In the second quarter and third quarter, India remained on the back foot as Varun Kumar failed to score the penalty corner by hitting it wide. Just four minutes later the Indian skipper Manpreet Singh came close to smashing a goal but his attempt was too saved by Malaysian goalkeeper Hairi Abd Rahman.

The Indian defender Harmanpreet Singh scored his second goal of the match which later sealed India’s win against Malaysia. The victory pushed India's points tally to seven from three matches and stamped India’s ticket to semifinals.

Earlier, in the tournament, Indian hockey team defeated Wales by 4-3 in a dramatic encounter. Dilpreet Singh, Mandeep Singh, Harmanpreet Singh and SV Sunil were the players who got their names on the score-sheet to help Indian team secure the victory.
